Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up and no login. The first screen asks for a name and your basics so the app can work out your targets, and that stays on your phone. Nothing you enter is sent to us.

How do I log a meal?

Four ways, and you can mix them freely. Scan the barcode. Search the built-in food database. Photograph the meal. Or add it by hand with your own numbers. The + button in the tab bar offers all four.

Does it work without signal?

Yes. The food database ships inside the app, so searching, logging, targets, plans and reports all work with no connection. Only scanning a barcode needs the internet, because it looks the product up in Open Food Facts.

What is in the food database?

About 8,000 whole foods from the USDA's Foundation Foods and SR Legacy datasets — ingredients, cuts of meat, produce, staples — with full nutrient detail. Packaged products come from Open Food Facts when you scan them, and anything you add yourself is saved as a custom food you can reuse.

I ate out and don't know what was in it.

Photograph it anyway. The shot is saved to that meal straight away, so it is never lost. Later, tap the photo and either describe the dish with a rough calorie total, search for what was in it, or break it into ingredients with the dish builder. Cal it recognises some foods from the photo on its own, entirely on your phone.

Why is my target different from another app's?

Cal it estimates what you burn from your height, weight, age, sex and activity level, then adjusts for your goal. Open TDEE from the Home screen to see the number and the assumptions behind it. Every formula of this kind is an estimate, typically within about 10 percent, which is why the screen says so and lets you set the target yourself.

Can I hold a target to the week instead of the day?

Yes. On the targets screen, switch the target from Day to Week. The verdict is then taken from your daily average across the week, so one large dinner does not sink it.

What does Cal it Pro include?

The full vitamin and mineral panel, targets and planning with target-versus-actual, supplement inventory and suppliers, weekly nutrient reports, and the detailed 30-day nutrition report. Everything else — logging, barcode scanning, photos, weight, water, recipes, reminders and data export — is free and stays free.

What does Cal it Pro cost?

A yearly subscription with a 7-day free trial, or a monthly subscription. Prices appear in the app in your local currency before you buy, under Settings › Cal it Pro.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us. Open Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions on your iPhone and select Cal it. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date, or before the free trial ends, to avoid the next charge.

How do I restore Pro on a new phone?

Open Settings › Cal it Pro and tap Restore purchase. As long as you are signed in with the same Apple Account you bought with, Pro comes back.

How do I move my data to a new phone?

Restore the new phone from your iPhone backup and the diary comes with it. You can also use Settings › Data export to save a backup file and bring it in on the other device.

Can I export or delete everything?

Yes, and export is free. Settings › Data export writes your log as CSV or a full backup file and lets you send it wherever you like. The same screen deletes everything from the phone, which cannot be undone.

Does it connect to Apple Health?

Yes, if you allow it. Cal it can read your weight and workouts and write back what you have eaten. Turn it on under Settings › Apple Health, and revoke it any time from the Health app.

A reminder didn't arrive.

Reminders are ordinary local notifications. Check that notifications are allowed for Cal it in your iPhone's Settings, and that a Focus or Do Not Disturb mode is not silencing them.

Is my data used to train anything?

No. Your diary never leaves your phone, so there is nothing for anyone to train on. Recognising food in a photo runs on the device itself.
